【法華經藥王菩薩本事品第二十三】法華經經文: 若復有人，以七寶滿三千大千世界，供養於佛，及大菩薩、辟支佛、阿羅漢，是人所得功德，不如受持此法華經，乃至一四句偈，其福最多。宿王華！譬如一切川流江河諸水之中，海為第一；此法華經亦復如是，於諸如來所說經中，最為深大。
【宣化上人淺釋】: 「若復有人，以七寶滿三千大千世界」：假使有人，用金、銀、琉璃、玻瓈、硨磲、赤珠、瑪瑙這七種寶物，滿三千大千世界這麼多，「供養於佛，及大菩薩、辟支佛、阿羅漢」：拿它來供養佛、菩薩，或者供養辟支佛和阿羅漢。「是人所得功德，不如受持此法華經，乃至一四句偈，其福最多」：這個人供養這四聖的功德，不如受持這一部《妙法蓮華經》，乃至於就受一句，或者四句偈等，所獲得的功德多。受持《法華經》這個人的福德，比以七寶滿三千大千世界供佛的功德更大！這是十種的譬喻。「宿王華」：釋迦牟尼佛又叫一聲，宿王華菩薩！「譬如一切川流江河諸水之中，海為第一」：譬如這所有一切的川流江河等，有水的地方，大海為第一；這個大海，就是有水的地方最深、最大的了。「此法華經亦復如是，於諸如來所說經中，最為深大」：這部《妙法蓮華經》，也就像這樣的情形。在一切諸佛所說的經典裡邊，它是最妙、最深、最大的。
[Flower Dharma Sutra]: “If a person made an offering to the Buddhas, great Bodhisattvas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Arhats of the seven treasures, vast enough to fill the trichiliocosm, that person’s merit from making offerings to these four kinds of sages would not equal that of one who upholds this Dharma Flower Sūtra.”
Master Hua: “Further, if a person made an offering to the Buddhas, great Bodhisattvas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Arhats of the seven treasures of gold, silver, vaiḍūrya, crystal, giant clam shell, red pearls, and carnelian, vast enough to fill the trichiliocosm, that person’s merit from making offerings to these four kinds of sages would not equal that of one who upholds this Dharma Flower Sūtra. That person’s merit is insignificant compared to that of one who upholds the Wondrous Dharma Lotus Sūtra, or even a single sentence or a four-line verse of it, for the latter’s merit is greater by far. The text now presents a series of ten analogies. Śākyamuni Buddha calls out again, “Constellation King Flower, consider this example. Just as the ocean, the deepest and largest body of water on earth, is foremost among all the bodies of water, including streams and rivers, the Dharma Flower Sūtra is the most profound and the greatest among all the sūtras taught by the Tathāgatas.”
